Keeping in touch with family and friends overseas

The cold weather often has us feeling blue, which results in booking holidays to escape the winter season. Perhaps your friend, relative or partner is heading overseas for a vacation and you aren’t sure of the best way to keep in touch? Overseas international calls can be very expensive, but if you have a fast and reliable internet connection like fibre then keeping in touch is a breeze.

FaceTime:

An application created by Apple that allows you to make audio and video calls over nothing but a Wi-Fi connection. It’s easy to use and a great way to be able to not only hear but see the person you’re talking with.

Skype:

Released in 2003 it was one of the first applications on the scene that allows the exact same benefits as FaceTime. The Microsoft friendly version is available on all devices via the App Store.

WhatsApp:

Created by Facebook, it’s a common way to text and call those overseas free of charge. It simply uses a Wi-Fi connection the same as the above, to send and receive messages. The perfect mobile phone option.

Facebook Messenger:

Another messaging app that allow both audio and video calls to be made from anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection or data.

Smart phones, I-pads and general advancements in technology have allowed endless opportunities - especially when it comes to staying connected. Make sure your devices and apps are constantly updated to ensure you can use them to the best of their ability.
