Construction firm strong advocate for fibre broadband

Construction business recommends fibre for all new buildings

For 30 years, local firm Armitage Williams Construction has been building high-quality commercial buildings and today sees fibre broadband connectivity as a crucial element of any new build.
Armitage Williams Construction are passionate about rebuilding Christchurch and believe working alongside Enable is crucial for the development of our city.
“For us, we work closely with Enable during the design and build process to ensure all buildings we’re working on are prepared for fibre. We have a unique opportunity to build a city with the most up to date technology, and that includes fitting all buildings for fibre.”

Fibre has enabled Armitage Williams to host everything in the cloud

The business is also a user of fibre broadband itself – having connected as soon as it became available and benefited since from a faster, more reliable connection.
Senior Project Manager Mason Williams says, “We have about 28 staff based in our head office, as well as 16 site managers working on 12 projects across the city. We’re constantly uploading documents for our field staff to access.”
“A simple tender would have 30 trades, and each one has 5 subcontractors we need to upload huge data files to. Previously, all of our sites were dialling back into the old server which was painfully slow. Now with fibre we can host everything in the cloud and our staff can benefit from a more consistent, faster connection.”

Fibre helps business save money

Another advantage to hosting everything in the cloud is that day to day IT management has reduced drastically.
Mr Williams adds, “We were spending a lot of money on hardware and maintenance of that hardware. Now our day to day IT management is very minimal. I used to spend 30-40% of my time managing IT, now it’s only about 10%.”
