Lynne Simpson owns Selvaggia Hair Company Ltd – a small hairdressing salon in Riccarton – that she describes as a lifestyle business.
The business runs a Facebook site to market to customers – instead of managing and maintaining a full website – and relies on a loyal client base and referrals. Lynne switched to fibre broadband to get a reliable broadband connection that would also help her provide better service to her clients.
Lyne says, “Switching to fibre was about the service. Can it deliver what I need it to do in order to keep my clients coming back to me? In our case we needed speed and consistency and the answer was ‘yes’.”
Every day, Lynne helps her clients get inspiration by looking at hairstyles on a tablet rather than flicking through a magazine. It doesn’t matter what time of the day the appointment is, Lynne knows that she can rely on fibre broadband to be able to quickly view the online magazines.
“Physical magazines cost about $60 each and become outdated in a few months - it no longer makes commercial sense to buy them. Now that we have fibre, we rely 100% on online magazines,” she says. “Previously we would notice the internet slow down at about 330pm, we couldn’t even get online. Now we have a fast connection, always.”
An added bonus of having a fast fibre service is the business can offer clients free Wifi, so they can work during their appointment. On top of that, Lynne streams music through her fibre connection to help make Selvaggia a fun place to work and visit.
Every evening Lynne backs-up her data to a cloud service - a crucial process to ensure important appointment and customer information is protected and managed well.
“Before fibre, every night I planned the back-up to take place at about 1am. Most mornings I would get to work and find that it failed due to a slow connection. I was so impatient in those final weeks before I could get fibre, I couldn’t wait.”
“Fibre has made everything so much easier and taken away so much stress, I would never go back.”
