More schools in Christchurch and Selwyn District to get fibre broadband

Enable’s fibre broadband network deployment to July 2013 includes making services available to 10 more schools in Christchurch and Selwyn District, the company announced today.

Enable CEO Steve Fuller said, “This announcement brings the total number of schools able to access fibre broadband within our coverage area to 82 – or 50 percent of schools.”

Enable has a tremendous legacy working with its partners – such as the Ministry of Education, Crown Fibre Holdings and the Greater Christchurch Schools Network – to build the largest schools fibre network in the country and it is continuing to grow this network.

“We recognised early the potential of fibre broadband to transform the way our children learn and empower them to be best prepared to thrive in a digital society,” said Mr Fuller.

“Innovation in creating new business opportunities and new services is needed for widely available fibre broadband to be successful and deliver on its transformational potential. This innovation will be led by the generation of young people that are introduced to the possibilities of fibre broadband at school.”

This announcement also marks the first time Enable will deliver services to schools outside of Christchurch and Lincoln High School Principal, Linda Tame has welcomed her school getting fibre broadband.

“Broadband connectivity is one of the most important tools in modern education. It opens up a world of learning possibilities and is transforming the classroom environment,” she said.

“We are very excited about being able to connect to fibre broadband. It will be an enormous step forward in the opportunities our students have to create in a digital environment; connect to experts, communities and their peers around the world; and to access educational resources online.”
