Enable fibre broadband deployment set to begin in Rangiora and Kaiapoi

Fibre broadband network provider, Enable is about to begin a network deployment programme in Rangiora and Kaiapoi that will mean over 3,000 businesses, schools and homes are able to access fibre broadband services by mid-2014.

“We are very excited to be bringing fibre broadband services to Rangiora and Kaiapoi,” said Enable CEO, Steve Fuller. “We know there is a lot of interest from local business leaders in what this will mean for their businesses and for the vibrancy of the local business community.”

About 10 percent of businesses in areas where Enable has network have made the switch to fibre  – and this number of increasing quickly as more businesses recognise the potential cost savings and productivity gains from new services that work best or only work over fibre broadband.

“We are also seeing people embrace the benefits of fibre broadband services at home in large numbers,” added Mr Fuller.

“As people realise the cost of installation at home is covered by Enable and that they can generally get a much faster, more reliable internet experience for the same or less than they are paying today, they switch.”

Enable’s deployment programme will see fibre ducting installed under footpaths, berms, verges and some roads in a number of parts of both towns over the coming months – with this work beginning in some areas in the next two weeks.

“In order to provide fibre broadband services we do need to complete a significant amount of civil construction work in the streets of Rangiora and Kaiapoi,” said Mr Fuller.

“We recognise that this work will cause some disruption and we will ensure we keep the community informed about where we will be working.”

Enable’s network deployment in a particular street is completed in stages over several weeks. It involves underground drilling or trenching to install fibre ducting down council-owned roadside service corridors and to every property boundary, temporary reinstatement of surfaces, network testing and then final reinstatement.

Enable will keep residents and businesses informed using letterbox notices. Information provided will include when work will take place in a particular street, what impact the works will have, notifcation that all work is completed and who to contact with any questions of concerns.

Kaiapoi and Rangiora business owners and residents interested in fibre broadband can visit enable.net.nz to check if it will be made available at their property as part of this deployment programme. They can also register their interest in being informed once it is available.
