With stricter measures currently in place to stop the spread of COVID-19, it’s realistic to assume that people in our community may be required to work from home. Now is a good time to check your home broadband to see if you’re set up to shift to the ‘home office’ if need-be.
We understand that not all our community have office work environments, but for those that do have the fortune of being able to work from home we have put together our recommendations to promote productivity and safety.
Assess your space:
At work you’re likely to have an ergonomic desk set-up, this is probably not achievable at home. Having a home office is ideal. However, not all of us have access to one.
What you can do is ensure you have a dedicated space in your home that is an appropriate work environment. A place that is quiet without distractions. Working from bed may also seem like a nice idea, but this doesn’t do our poor backs and posture any favors.
Instead try set up a space at your dining room table or kitchen bench. Make sure you have an appropriate chair, not a stool, something that can support your back and is comfortable enough to sit on for 8 hours. Try using cushions to prop yourself up, if you don’t have access to a desk chair.
Check your connection:
Having Enable fibre means you’re on the best connection to be able to carry out business as usual. It provides the speeds and reliability you will need in order to work from home as well as the capacity to ensure we can carry everyone through these events.
This means you can email, download, and video call into meetings without any disruptions. A fast fibre connection is particularly important, when more people are trying to access the internet at the same time – such as a family working from home at the same time as children needing to do online schoolwork.
However, we do understand some of you won’t be able to get connected at these times due to self-isolation, consenting issues or perhaps you just don’t feel comfortable with our work at this time. We understand and want to reassure you that there are still ways to make the most of your connection whether you’re currently on Enable fibre or not.
Assess your Wi-Fi modem set-up:
Assessing your modem set-up is crucial – The distance between your modem and your devices can affect your Wi-Fi performance. Set-up your working station so your devices are close to the modem to maximise performance.
Other helpful tips are maintaining regular hours, setting a schedule and keeping a routine, just like you would in the office.
We value the health and safety of our community and want to ensure you’re getting the best advice and connection during the unfolding situation with COVID-19.
