We’ve recertified as a B Corp™, achieving a score of 95.5. The minimum to qualify is 80. The median for ordinary businesses is 50.9.
What is B Corp certification?
B Corp certification is awarded by B Lab, a non-profit organisation that assesses companies on their social and environmental performance. Certified B Corps meet verified standards of performance, accountability, and transparency. There are currently over 8,000 certified B Corps across 96 countries.
For a Local Fibre Company, B Corp certification isn’t the obvious move. It’s more common in companies where customers can actively choose them based on their values. Most people don’t choose their fibre network for its values. So why do we pursue it?
Why it matters for a company like ours
“We’re the fibre network that over 165,000 Christchurch homes, businesses and schools rely on every day. The question of how we run that network matters.” — Johnathan Eele, CEO, Enable Fibre Broadband
As an infrastructure company, most people don’t think about us unless something goes wrong. But we believe connecting our community comes with a responsibility to our people, to this region, and to the environment we operate in.
B Corp is one way we stay accountable to getting that right.
What does B Corp measure?
B Corp certification measures how a business treats its people, its community, and the environment it operates in. Companies are assessed across five areas: governance, workers, community, environment, and customers. Recertification requires fresh evidence every three years.
How did we score?
Scoring 95.5, well above the 80 required to certify and nearly double the 50.9 median for ordinary businesses.
