Just moved into your new home and need help setting up your internet?
Follow these simple steps or watch our step-by-step video to get your internet up and running.
Step 1: Locate your media cabinet
Your media cabinet is usually located in your garage. Inside, you’ll find the Optical Network Terminal (ONT). Make sure it’s plugged in and powered on. You'll also see the patch panel. This is already set up and activated.
Step 2: Find the ethernet wall jack
Next, look for the ethernet wall jack in your home. This will be where you'll set up your modem that has been provided by your Internet Service Provider.
Step 3: Connect your modem
Plug your modem in to a power outlet near the ethernet wall jack. Then, connect one end of the ethernet cable to the wall jack and the other end in the WAN or LAN port in your modem.
Step 4: Connect the media cabinet
Go back to the media cabinet in the garage and connect the ethernet cables found in the media panel into the LAN port on both the ONT and patch panel.
Step 5: Power everything on
Once everything is connected and powered on, you should be able to connect your device to the internet.
Want to get an accurate reading of your broadband speed? Start by visiting speedtest.net, a reliable tool for measuring your internet connection.
For the most precise results, avoid using Wi-Fi during the test—wireless signals can fluctuate due to interference, distance, and device limitations. Instead, plug your device directly into the modem using an Ethernet cable. This eliminates variables and gives a true reflection of your network’s capability.
It's also a good idea to run the test three times, ideally at different times of day. Multiple tests will give you a more balanced view of your broadband speed.
