From construction sites to coffee catch-ups, Emily works alongside Canterbury builders and sparkies to help make fibre a seamless part of the build.
If you're a builder in Canterbury, chances are you'll come across Emily at some point.
As one of Enable's Business Development Managers, Emily spends her days working alongside builders and sparkies, helping ensure new homes are fibre ready during construction so homeowners can get connected sooner and with less hassle.
While fibre is a big part of the conversation, Emily's role is really about people.
She's often out on-site, in show homes, or catching up with builders over a coffee, learning how they work and finding ways Enable can better support them. It's a role she was immediately drawn to.
"I really enjoyed working with tradies earlier in my career, so I was keen to work closely in that space again. What stood out about Enable was the focus on building real, long-term relationships rather than quick transactions."
That relationship-first approach is one of the things she enjoys most about her job.
"I love getting out and meeting different builders, understanding how they work and figuring out how we can work better together. Seeing that come together in a great homeowner experience is pretty rewarding."
Why fibre should be part of the build conversation
When asked what builders should know about fibre, Emily's answer is simple: the earlier, the better.
"It's one of those things that's much easier to sort while everything is already happening on site."
Just as builders plan for essential services like power and water, fibre should also be considered as part of the build schedule from the outset. As internet connectivity becomes an increasingly important part of modern life, planning for fibre during construction helps ensure residents can get connected sooner while avoiding unnecessary rework and delay after handover.
"Getting fibre installed during the build means less rework, a smoother handover process, and happier residents who can choose their internet provider and get connected from the day they move in."
Emily's advice?
"Get in touch early. If you have any questions about the fibre process or how it could work for your project, I'm always happy to have a yarn.”
Life beyond the worksite
When she's not meeting builders or working on ways to improve the fibre journey, Emily is usually planning her next adventure, hosting a BBQ with friends, or tackling a home renovation project of her own.
And while she knows her way around a building site, there's one thing she's the first to admit she's not great at.
"I have absolutely no sense of direction. Google Maps and I are in a very committed relationship."
Building better experiences together
For Emily, helping builders get fibre ready isn't just about infrastructure. It's about making life easier for the people building Canterbury's newest communities and creating a better experience for the homeowners who'll live in them.
By bringing fibre into the conversation early, builders can avoid headaches later and help ensure every new home is ready for the digital world from day one.
If you’re keen to chat about an upcoming project, Emily is always happy to put the kettle on and talk fibre. After all, some of the best results come from planning ahead.
